Ruth Jones has hinted at a devastating end to Gavin and Stacey as the final episode airs this Christmas.

With the finale of James Corden and Ruth Jones' comedy set to air on Christmas Day, fans are eager to see what is in store for the lovable characters. However, Ruth, 58, has hinted at a sad end amid rumours that there could be a funeral in the last ever episode of the hit BBC One show.

One Heart Radio listener couldn't contain their excitement when they quizzed James and Ruth on what fans should expect to happen on the last episode. “The listener asked: Hi James and Ruth, my name is Hannah. I just wanted to ask the question, does everybody make it through the finale? I've heard rumours of a funeral. What is going on?”

In response, James said: "Oh, it’s a big question, isn’t it?". Meanwhile, Ruth added: "Yeah! The thing is, Hannah, I think it would spoil it for you if we told you what's actually going to happen. I think you're just going to have to go with the flow and ride those emotions."

Ruth and James answered listeners' burning questions

Ruth's confession comes after one worker from the set insisted that won't be the case and is claiming to know exactly why that's the case. With the finale of the comedy set to air on Christmas Day, fans are eager to see what is in star for the lovable characters.

And an extra from the filming called Linda Bailey has given an insight into the filming. Linda from Rhonda Valley had been contacted by her agent to see if she was free to work on a secretive production in Wales on September 2.

Without realising what she had signed up for she had to sign a non-disclosure agreement before arriving on set. She was sworn to secrecy but claims she didn't take home too many secret moments - and that's how she was happy to keep it.

However, she admitted a certain moment made her realise that this will in fact be the last ever episode of the series. Speaking to the Sun, Linda - who also works as a tour guide for the Gavin & Stacey tour - claimed: "I'm like I’m not being funny, the clue’s in the title, it is the finale.

"And not just that, I found when we were going to some of the locations (for the tour), for instance one of the pubs, some of the props they’d used they were then getting rid of. That says to me, this is the end.”

She also insisted that James and Ruth had revealed they had wanted to film their final scenes at The Tadross. “I spoke to the owner and he said they wanted to come here for the last day, because they like this location. They've used it twice before," she said.

While it's unlikely there will be any more episodes of the much-loved series, fans can brace themselves for another fix of the sitcom in the near future. Ruth Jones, 58, and James Corden, 46, have shared that they do have something more up their sleeves before leaving Gavin and Stacey in the past for good.

They have revealed they have penned a novel together titled ‘When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship,’ which will be released in autumn 2025. The book will explain how Ruth and James turned their impressive sitcom idea into such a beloved show. It will also feature never-before-heard gossip and secret insights from behind the scenes.

Gavin & Stacey airs on Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
