EastEnders fans spot hilarious live blunder as Sonia gives birth inside Queen Vic
EastEnders cast and crew took on a live episode on BBC One on Thursday night, and one moment in particular got viewers talking as the 40th anniversary continued
by Charlotte Tutton, Zara Woodcock · The MirrorViewers were quick to spot a blunder during EastEnders' live episode earlier this evening.
The soap very bravely took on a live episode yet again, having done many in the past. Some gaffes over the years have certainly left fans amused, and tonight's episode was no different. One moment saw Sonia give birth with sister Bianca Jackson and Lauren Branning by her side.
She was only steps away from the dead body of the baby's father, killer Reiss Colwell. The baby turned blue but thankfully, after being attended to, the baby began to cry. The paramedics soon arrived as the trio and the baby left the pub. However, fans couldn't help but notice how the baby looked on screen.
One even pointed out the baby looked like a doll. One user said on X: "sonia and that baby was the most ridiculous scene ever it looked so fake," while another posted: "Sonia’s baby has tripled in size within 5 mins…" One amused viewer commented: "Why has Sonia’s baby aged 10 months in 15 seconds." Another added: "Sonia's baby looks like Mother Theresa."
It comes as EastEnders viewers voted for Sonia's baby to be named Julia in the second vote of the BBC One soap’s live episode on Thursday night. Sitting in the back of an ambulance, Sonia told her baby: “So welcome to the world Julia, it’s all about to begin.”
Viewers also had the choice to name the baby Toni, paying homage to EastEnders’ creators Julia Smith and Tony Holland. It follows the shock cameo by legend Anita Dobson who returned to the BBC soap on Wednesday night, reprising her role as the late Angie Watts. After becoming trapped upstairs in the pub, Angie's daughter Sharon Watts began to lose consciousness - with the Walford resident hallucinating Angie speaking to her.
The iconic character told her to start screaming for help and that it wasn't her time just yet. "You're not giving up on us, are you Sharon?" Angie asked her. "Hello, darling! I've missed you so much."
As Sharon tells her that she's cold, Angie replied: "I know baby and I wish I could just put my arms round you and give you a great big hug but it's not time for us to be together yet darling."
When Sharon admitted that she's scared, Angie replied: "We're all scared aren't we? Look at me - spent my whole life being scared. But you've got to keep fighting, Sharon."
Spurred on by an imaginary Angie's words, Sharon began calling for help - with Grant rushing in to rescue her out of the burning building. Anita, 75, last appeared on EastEnders in 1988 as Angie, one of the original soap characters who has been involved in some of the most iconic episodes in EastEnders history.
Anita appeared on EastEnders: 40 Years on The Square earlier this week, stopping by the documentary that marks the soap's birthday milestone. The return left viewers in complete shock, with it kept top secret until the episode aired that evening.
