Netflix star claims Meghan Markle is 'trolling' Royal Family with lifestyle show
Whitney Cummings believes that Meghan's new lifestyle series, which was released on Netflix last week, is a way for the former Suits actress to take a subtle swipe at her in-laws.
by Zoe Delaney · The MirrorAn American comedian has taken aim at Meghan Markle's Netflix series, claiming the Duchess of Sussex is 'trolling' the British Royal Family.
Whitney Cummings, who has two stand-up specials on the streaming platform, believes mum-of-two Meghan's new lifestyle series is a way for the former Suits actress to take a subtle swipe at her in-laws.
"I don't think she cares if you like the show," Whitney alleges. "This has nothing to do with making a good show. It is just her subtly roasting the Royal Family. This isn't made for us. This is made for like 30 people in that castle. That's all she's doing."
With Love, Meghan hit Netflix last week, after a delayed premiere due to the LA wildfires, and was met with mixed reviews. The eight-part series, which sees the former Suits actress give hosting tips and cooking with her celebrity friends, has been savaged by critics but featured in Top 10 Netflix charts across the world.
The second season is coming in the autumn, and has already finished filming, according to Netflix. Meghan posted on her Instagram stories on Friday with a video of her wearing a hat with the writing "lettuce romaine calm" on and grinning, then turning and putting her hands in the air.
The caption on the Instagram story said: "Lettuce romaine calm… or not (!) because I’m thrilled to share that Season 2 of ‘With Love, Meghan’ is coming!" The story was shortly followed by a post on her Instagram with a reel with clips of her cooking and the caption: "Oh, how I love ASMR!
"If you’re loving Season 1, just wait until you see the fun we cooked up on Season 2! Thanks for joining the party, and an endless thanks to the amazing team and crew who helped bring it all to life! @netflix”
The Duke of Sussex makes just one appearance at the end of the first season’s final episode when he joins Meghan, her mother Doria Ragland and friends for an outdoor celebratory brunch.
In what is likely to be seen as a nod to the restrictions she felt within the royal family, Meghan raises a toast, saying: "This feels like a new chapter that I’m so excited that I get to share and I’ve been able to learn from all of you. So I just thank you for all the love and support. And here we go, there’s a business. All of that is just part of that creativity that I’ve missed so much, so thank you for loving me so much and celebrating with me."
Today, Meghan announced she was returning to the world of podcasting. The Duchess of Sussex is launching a new podcast called Confessions of a Female Founder.
Meghan described the venture as "candid conversations" with “amazing women” about the success and struggles of their businesses. She wrote on her Instagram account that she was "so excited" to share the news, describing recording the series as "absolutely eye-opening, inspiring…and fun!"
The mum-of-two added: "Because what’s the point if we can’t have some fun on this wild adventure?" She said the women had shared their "tips, tricks (and tumbles)" as well as "letting me pick their brains as I build out my own business, As ever".
The duchess’ Archetypes podcast about female stereotypes in 2022 ran for just one series, and was part of the Sussexes’ previous deal with Spotify, which ended the year after. The podcast has been created with Lemonada Media, which said listeners would hear "unfiltered stories behind the successes of notable female founders".
