Couple who lived in Gavin and Stacey's Uncle Bryn house moved out after Stag Do scenes

Fans of Gavin and Stacey made life in one house in Barry, Wales, less than tidy as the owners received knocks on the doors at all hours of the day and night from those wanting a tour

A couple who moved into the house used to film scenes in the smash BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey were forced to move out after it was left in an revolting state.

Married couple Lisa and Michael Edwards moved into a terraced house on Trinity Street in the town of Barry, Wales in 2006. The couple had no idea that the property had been used as a location on Gavin and Stacey as the show had not yet started airing.

The first ever episode of the much-loved sitcom aired on 13 May 2007 and the first season showed the home of Rob Brydon's character Brynfor West - who is known as Uncle Bryn. Scenes showed Mathew Horne's titular Gavin Shipman being taught about the wonders of the internet by Uncle Bryn in the home.

Lisa and Michael, however, were stunned to see the home they had recently bought suddenly being broadcast across the nation. The couple were then even more surprised when show bosses contacted them to reveal that they wanted to return to film the second season of the show - which aired in 2008.

Lisa, 41, told WalesOnline: "The first time I realised I was in the house watching it on TV. I thought it looked like my living room at the time, and it was the weirdest feeling. Our neighbours were away at the time so I couldn't ask them so I rang the BBC. They said due to data protection they couldn't tell us - they said they were filming series two and if someone knocked on my door then we would know."

Revealing the BBC returned to film further episodes, where she got to meet the cast, Lisa continued: "We got to stay in the house for filming so we saw more than everyone else. For season two they completely re-did the living room. There was stuffed animals and tanks - it didn't look even slightly like our living room."

However, the skyrocketing success of the show - which went from an audience of less than one million to a viewership in excess of 18 million - caused friction for the husband and wife. As the show became more popular, the property became a tourist hotspot - with fans arriving at all hours of the day, and night.

They later shared via Reddit: "We had people knocking on the windows late at night asking for a tour. When we moved out we got a bit sick of all the attention as we had people knocking on our door to have a look around. Now I can look back with fondness and I am really excited about the special. In fact I took my Girl Guides to see the last bit of filming on trinity street."

One episode of the show included a stag do that was filmed at the home - which Lisa revealed left a terrible smell in the house. She revealed: "This was the most they set up the living room, it was also there for the whole weekend and they left pizzas out on markers that couldn’t be moved. They smelled lovely to start with but the whole room stank by Monday. They also had a subbuteo set laid out. We did have a nose around in there!"
