Coronation Street legend teases never before seen major Emmerdale crossover
Coronation Street actress Jane Danson - who plays Leanne Battersby - has opened up about a potential Coronation Street crossover
by Jasmine Allday · The MirrorCoronation Street star Jane Danson has teased a potential Emmerdale crossover.
Jane Danson will appear on the festive edition of Lorraine Kelly's ITV show this Christmas, where she is quizzed by the TV presenter about the possibility of a collaboration between the two ITV soaps - Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
This Christmas, there will be big scenes on Emmerdale when Piper and Belle are finally reunited, whilst there's trouble for Marlon and April when he finds out that she has been trying to buy cannabis. Over at Home Farm, Kim seemingly goes missing when her horse is found with no one on it, whilst Will continues with his plan to get back at Kim.
In Coronation Street, Toyah finds herself arrested on suspicion of theft and fraud by abuse of trust whilst Gail and Jesse hold their farewell party in the Rovers, as tensions simmer. Will Gail get the happy ending she wants?
Suggesting a soap collaboration, Lorraine asks Jane: "Has anybody ever thought of doing this, obviously there are these worlds, there’s Coronation Street and there's Emmerdale, would you not love to do a merger? Do you not think it would be really good?"
Jane seemed keen about the idea. She teased a potential romance between Leanne and Cain, telling the ITV host: "I've always said, soap and television are changing so who knows what would happen, but I’ve always quite liked the idea of Cain Dingle coming over to have a pint in the Rovers and Leanne could have a little date with him, she needs a bad boy I think."
It's not the first time the soaps have collaborated for a bit of a crossover.
Earlier this year, in a scene with Rhona, a person in the back of the shot could be seen reading a copy of Chit Chat magazine, which is usually referenced in Coronation Street amongst the residents.
Back in 2021, to raise awareness of climate change, a total of seven soaps - including Coronation Street and Emmerdale - came together to draw attention to the crisis. Mentioning others within the special episodes, all seven soaps linked together in a special TV event that has never been done again since. Back in 2010, EastEnders and Coronation Street came together for a special Children In Need episode to raise vital money for the charity.
