Three months after his tragic death, a plaque has been unveiled on Clevedon Pier in memory of Liam Payne, who previously filmed a music video there with his One Direction bandmates
by Daniel Bird · The MirrorLiam Payne has been remembered with a "beautiful" tribute.
The late One Direction singer tragically fell to his death aged just 31 in October, 2024. He fell from the third floor of a hotel. An autopsy ruled that Liam had died instantly after his fall which caused "multiple traumatic injuries" and subsequently led to "internal and external haemorrhage."
But almost three months later, Clevedon Pier have unveiled a plaque dedicated to Liam for a special reason. Liam and his former One Direction bandmates, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik famously filmed parts of the video for their song, You & I on the pier on March 25, 2014.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the official account for Clevedon Pier shared an image of the plaque, alongside the original documenting their day on the pier. The latest reads: "Remembering Liam Payne – One Direction. 29.08.1993 – 16.10.2024." It also included the lyrics: "If you're lost just look for me, you'll find me in the region of the summer stars," taken from the bands song, Walking in the Wind."
Captioning their upload, Clevedon Pier said: "We are pleased to share that there is now a plaque in memory of Liam Payne on Clevedon Pier. The beautiful plaque is inscribed with lyrics from one of Liam's favourite songs. @onedirection recorded their award winning video You & I on #ClevedonPier."
The post which has been liked over 2,000 times was soon flooded with messages from fans of Liam's. One said: "Beautiful!" "You made me cry but this is such a good gesture thank you so much for him, his family and friends," wrote a second. A third commented: "This is beyond beautiful and so mindful. Thank you very much." Meanwhile, another went on to type: "Beautiful! A perfect tribute to Liam and the perfect choice of song. Thank you from a fan."
It comes after fans of Liam were left in fits of rage after his alleged close friend, Roger Nores, launched a defamation suit against Payne's grieving father, Geoff. has been named in a US defamation lawsuit by Nores, whose name has come up several times during the investigation into Liam's death.
Five people were later charged over his death, including Mr Nores who was accused of manslaughter, with Argentinian prosecutors claiming he "abandoned" the singer and failed in his duty of care responsibilities. In the legal complaint filed in Florida on Wednesday, Mr Nores claimed that Liam’s father made sworn declarations to Argentine officials which were "false, contained material omissions, and many parts were not based on personal knowledge". The contested statements include allegations that Payne was in the care of Mr Nores and Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy "due to his addictions", according to the lawsuit.
However, the court documents claim Mr Nores' relationship with the late singer was misrepresented, noting the pair had a "dear mutual friendship" but insisted he "never had a legal duty of care" towards him. The lawsuit has sparked a furious reaction, with many fans left shocked by the decision.
"#JusticeForLiam #westandwithgeoffpayne. The whole world can see the type of person that Roger is. To sue the grieving father of a supposed friend!! We will support Geoff all the way," one fan wrote on Twitter (X) on Friday. Another fumed: "what a piece of sh** you have to be to sue the grieving father of your dead friend because of your damaged ego. Liam was so good, how horrible that everyone around him was so fake and greedy. wtf."
