Following EastEnders' 40th blockbuster anniversary week, it's been announced that a much-loved character is on her way back to Albert Square.

Vicki Fowler is due to return to Walford following the death of her uncle, Martin Fowler (James Bye), who was killed in the explosion at the Queen Vic.

Vicki, to be played by Alice Haig, will arrive alongside her boyfriend Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and his son Joel (Max Murray). The character is the love child of Michelle Fowler and Den Watts, and was last seen in Walford in 2004, before she moved to Australia with partner Spencer Moon to run a bar.

Vicki was formerly played by Scarlett Alice Johnson, but actress Alice Haig will now be taking over the role. Here's all you need to know about the soap newcomer.

Alice hails from south east London and has a number of acting credits to her name. Her career kicked off at Shakespeare's Globe and she's appeared in Jonathan Kent’s Fairy Queen at BAM New York.

Alice has worked with the likes of Sara Pascoe and has been part of projects with Paines Plough, Theatre 503 and National Theatre Studio. She starred in the one-woman drama How to Disappear Completely and portrayed Miss Verity in the arena tour of Grandpa's Great Escape.

Many TV fans may recognise Alice from her role in BBC's Rain Dogs, in which she played journalist Sophie. The actress has also appeared in Disney+ series Andor and BBC's This Is Going To Hurt.

Away from acting, Alice appears to keep her personal life out of the spotlight. The star's Instagram account has no posts, while her other social media profiles are rarely updated.

Speaking about her new role in EastEnders, Alice said: "I am so excited. I have always watched the show, and I was born in February 1985, so I’m the same age as EastEnders! It’s so cool to be playing a character like Vicki - we think we know her, but a lot has changed. I can’t wait for all the Albert Square drama ahead.”

It is yet to be confirmed when exactly Vicki will arrive in Walford, but with Martin's death having occurred during Thursday's (20 February) episode, it seems likely she will make her debut in the coming weeks.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm with episodes released early on BBC iPlayer at 6am
