Celebrities who hate Christmas from Ozzy Osbourne to Love Island's Molly-Mae Hague
While the majority of people have been getting in the festive spirit, not everyone is a fan of this time of year - including several famous faces who have controversially admitted they hate Christmas
by Amy Jones, Danni King · The MirrorChristmas cheer is everywhere, but for some celebs, the jingle bells don't ring that sweetly.
While most folks are decking the halls, certain stars like Pete Wicks, Molly-Mae Hague, Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart, and Noel Gallagher have caused a stir by confessing they're not fans of the Yuletide season. Reasons behind their Scrooge-like stances range from not-so-fond memories to disdain for the excesses of the season, reports OK! Let's dive into the stories behind these holiday-hating celebrities' very vocal bah humbug...
Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne, the Black Sabbath legend, has been griping about the festive season's hyper-commercialisation for years. The Prince of Darkness lamented to Express back in 2009 about the pointless waste wrapped up in festive paper: "I have to unravel all these f**king presents. What a f**king waste of paper." Not mellowing with time, he told Loudersound in 2022 of his wish to bypass the festivities altogether: "I've been saying to [wife] Sharon [Osbourne] forever, 'F**k Christmas, I hate it.' It's for shopaholics and kids and so I've always wanted to work through Christmas."
Molly-Mae Hague
Then there's Molly-Mae Hague, former Love Island star turned influencer, who admitted her lack of Christmas spirit comes from places of past pains. She confided to followers that the holiday dredges up "mixed memories" for her, rendering the season less than joyful. When a fan probed about her aversion to the festive season, she responded: "I'm honestly not sure why, but sadly, I do think it kind of stems from my parents being divorced. It's a little different when your family isn't all together. I know this is the case for so many people but Christmas always brings up such mixed memories for me."
Pete Wicks
Ex-TOWIE star Pete Wicks has been candid about his preference to spend Christmas Day solo. Last year, he flew out to Australia to cheer on his mate Sam Thompson in I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! and confessed he was "glad" to have dodged the festive frenzy. Chatting with The Mirror, Pete said: "I'm so glad I've been away and missed most of the build up to Christmas. The day itself is fine, but the build up before and the month after is awful. Too much before, and after it you just feel a little blue. For me, I've missed all the build up which is great - but then there's the panic buying of presents."
He added: "I normally spend Christmas on my own, with the dogs. I find it a heavy, heavy day. I always go and see my mum in the morning and then I generally just sit with the dogs and watch Only Fools And Horses. I've got my reasons! That is pretty much my Christmas, job done. You can't beat the classics, I love the Royle Family too. A bit of Christmas TV with the dogs, living the dream."
Colin Firth
Colin Firth, the star of the beloved Christmas film 'Love Actually', has a secret that might shock fans - he absolutely "loathes" the festive season. The actor confessed his disdain for the holiday cheer back in 2009, revealing to the Daily Mail: "I have a profound loathing of Christmas - it's sad really. At this time of year, I am careful not to switch on the radio because those novelty jingles make me homicidal and plunge me into the heart of Scrooge territory." He didn't stop there, adding: "I think Christmas turns us all into Scrooge. Everyone is trying to throw happy stuff at you, and that's when I come over all humbug".
Rod Stewart
Rock legend Rod Stewart also seems to be lacking in Christmas spirit, according to his wife Penny Lancaster. During an appearance on Loose Women, she revealed: "Rod doesn't love Christmas. He can't wait till the decorations are down and his house is back to normal." Despite his grinch-like attitude, Penny does her best to get him into the holiday mood, saying, "Just to lift his mood I put a little Father ... Lady Christmas on. It puts a big smile on his face."
Noel Gallagher
Noel Gallagher, known for his blunt opinions, is another celebrity who isn't charmed by the yuletide festivities. In a chat with Far Out Magazine in 2021, the Oasis frontman made his feelings clear: "I f**king hate it with a passion." Although he's tried to warm up to the season, especially when Oasis' song 'Half the World Away' was featured in a Christmas advert, his aversion remains strong. He decided to give Christmas another go, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to his expectations.
"At that particular point I thought, 'Christmas, you know what, I'm going to give Christmas a second chance here.' I gave it a second chance, it was f**king s**t. Too much food, too much 'We Are the World,' the sweaters, the TV presenters, the s**t adverts, the f**king weather," he added.
