Gavin and Stacey star James Corden's family decision after opening up on 'hard' marriage
Gavin and Stacey star James Corden has opened up on his 12 year marriage to wife Julia Carey, saying "no one ever really talks about just how f***ing hard it is"
by Daniel Windham, Daniel Windham · The MirrorJames Corden, beloved 'Gavin and Stacey' actor, has opened up about the complexities of matrimony, revealing the tough side of his 12-year marriage to Julia Carey.
The renowned English actor, who's a dad to three children with Julia, lifted the veil on his private family life in a candid chat with Prime Video, after tying the knot in 2012 following a romance that bloomed over three years.
Delving into his married life, Corden didn't shy away from admitting the testing nature of the union, emphasising the need for both partners to be "evolving".
He admitted: "It's funny with marriage-no one ever really talks about just how f***ing hard it is sometimes. Like, the sacrifice that you and your partner have to make."
Corden reflected on personal growth within a partnership, stating, "What you're both trying to do is grow together, knowing that you're never staying the same. You're constantly evolving.", reports Wales Online.
"And if you're not evolving, then you might as well be dead: you have to be moving and evolving at the same time as someone else."
Introduced to Julia by Dominic Cooper, his mate and fellow star from 'The History Boys', 46-year-old James had previously ventured stateside to host 'The Late, Late Show' in 2013, seizing an opportunity in Hollywood.
However, the 'Fat Friends' sensation made headlines in 2022 when he announced, per the New York Post, his decision to depart from his late-night gig the upcoming year for reasons close to home.
He remarked: "My son was 3 when we moved [to America], my daughter was 12 weeks. When we left, he was 12, my daughter was 8, and our younger daughter - who is an American, and we treat her as such...No, really for us, it was the notion that it was time.
"We wanted them to know their grandparents. And with my son finishing 6th grade, it was just an absolute pull to go home, and root that period of their lives in - we wanted them to know Britain, and their extended family."
Previously, in a December 2022 chat on The Morning Show, James shared insights into his decision to quit The Late Late Show, explaining: "The reason to leave is we're a long way from home in Los Angeles. And there [are] people at home that are getting older, and we want our kids to know them and be around them."
James, alongside his TV producer wife Julia, has settled back into UK life in Belsize Park, north London, with their children Max, 12, Carey, 9, and Charlotte, 7.
