BBC The Traitors' Maia breaks silence branding co-stars 'evil' after brutal murder

The Traitors targeted Maia Gouveia on Wednesday night's episode of the BBC show, with her 'murder' coming shortly after her sister Armani Gouveia was banished last week

The Traitors contestant Maia Gouveia has addressed her departure from the show after 'betraying' her own sister.

Maia, 25, was 'murdered' on Wednesday night's episode of the BBC show by Linda, 70, and Minah, 29, who are the remaining Traitors. It comes after her older sister Armani, 27, who had been the third Traitor, was banished in the episode that aired on Friday last week.

Armani had drawn suspicion from Faithfuls, including Maia, who told their co-stars at the round table that she wasn't sure of her older sister's allegiance. Although she ultimately voted for Freddie, 20, to be banished, Maia had said she was 60 per cent convinced Armani was a Traitor. The majority of the group went on to vote to banish Armani.

After making it through the banishment, Maia became the Traitor's next 'murder' victim that evening. Discussing their reasons, Minah said: "She's not gonna get banished. Nobody thinks that she's a Traitor. Nobody, in my opinion, can be linked to murdering Maia, apart from Freddie." Linda agreed, before Minah said in their private discussion: "And wouldn't it be interesting getting rid of two sisters in one day."

Maia has spoken out over her departure in an exit interview. Sharing her thoughts, she said: "Gutted. When I saw that letter, I just thought you're evil, you made me betray my sister and them wow, I'm dead the next day. I feel bad for Freddie, I started screaming his name saying I know it's you!"

Asked if she would have done anything differently, she said: "I would have done it completely differently, I wish I'd stuck to my original plan of not putting too much emotion into it. You have to experience it, I was judging people before on showing too much emotion when I watched previous series but when you get there, it's a totally different kettle of fish."

Maia also reflected on Armani's banishment. She described her "final" round table with her sister as a highlight from the experience. She recalled being emotional, saying: "I was just bawling my eyes out." Maia continued in the exit interview: "But it was weird because I felt this relief that I didn't have to see Armani in that light anymore. It was weird to me that she was lying, and she doesn't even like lying. When she left, I felt sad but also relief that I didn't have to act anymore myself."
