BBC The Traitors star reveals 'bombshell' betrayal as group turn on Faithful
The Traitors looked shaky when they failed to recruit but host Claudia Winkleman says they are "smashing it" as the group ejects the seventh Faithful of the series
by Nicola Methven · The MirrorThe latest Faithful to be banished from The Traitors has told of his astonishment over being voted off by 12 of the remaining players in last night’s show - including two members of his “clique”
Barber Tyler Smith had never been mentioned before last night’s episode - but, in a shock move, the vast majority of the remaining 17 contestants voted to banish him. Speaking after learning he no longer had any chance of landing the prize pot, which currently stands at £29,500, he admitted to being shocked at how quickly the rest of the group had turned on him.
“I didn't think I'd ever get banished. I thought the only way I'd ever leave the game was being murdered,” he said. “Next thing you know, Leon drops a mini bombshell and puts suspicion on me. I thought that's my mate as well, because I got really close to Leon in there, and obviously Leanne. And they were the ones who went for me, then Jake as well. But you know, is what it is.”
Despite being blindsided by his close friends in the castle, Tyler insisted he wouldn’t do anything differently. “Hindsight is twenty-twenty,” he said. “I stick by every decision I made. It’s like in a game of football; if you lose, there’s no point in saying we could have done this, we could have done that. The game's done, my game is finished at this point, and that's it. No regrets.”
But the 29-year-old feels he now has more confidence having taken part in the BBC1 show, in which he made the candid confession, to Jake, that he’d never had a girlfriend. “He said to me, you need to love yourself, what you are and who you are. Be yourself. And that has stuck with me.”
Tyler, from Leicester, is the seventh Faithful to lose their place on the show, with the group having only caught one Traitor so far, Armani Gouveia, which Tyler said was the highlight of his time in the castle.
It comes after doctor Kasim Ahmed was banished, admitting that he had found the relentless suspicion on him “tricky” to deal with.
Fans had complained about the way he was isolated from the group at the end, with one saying he was “undoubtedly bullied and shunned - because he's a doctor”.
The Traitors - Linda Rands and Minah Shannon - had a shaky moment when their bid to recruit a new Traitor failed, but host Claudia Winkleman said they are “smashing it” compared to the Faithful, who are having a terrible time when it comes to spotting the liars.
