Ozzy Osbourne fans to see his debilitating health woes firsthand in heartbreaking film
Black Sabbath fans have more than their reunion gig to look forward to this year as frontman Ozzy Osbourne is set to release a tell-all documentary about his health struggles
by Susan Knox · The MirrorAhead of Black Sabbath's final reunion gig this summer, music fans can also look forward to a feature-length documentary on heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne.
The TV special is being produced by Parmount+ and will document the Black Sabbath rocker's final show in Birmingham on July 5. The documentary, titled Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now will air later this year and it will delve into the music legend's ongoing health battles following his Parkinson's diagnosis back in 2003.
Filming for the eye-opening documentary started in early 2022 during sessions for his thirtieth album Patient Number 9, and Ozzy, 76, has now opened up about the details of the documentary and what fans can expect as they will get a bird's eye view of his debilitating health struggles for the very first time.
"The last six years have been full of some of the worst times I’ve been through. There’s been times when I thought my number was up. But making music and making two albums saved me. I’d have gone nuts without music. My fans have supported me for so many years, and I really want to thank them and say a proper goodbye to them. That is what the Villa Park show is about," Ozzy said.
His wife Sharon also added about the documentary: “This film is an honest account of what has happened to Ozzy during the last few years. It shows how hard things have been for him and the courage he has shown while dealing with a number of serious health issues, including Parkinson’s. It’s about the reality of his life now. We have worked with a production team we trust and have allowed them the freedom to tell the story openly. We hope that story will inspire people that are facing similar issues to Ozzy.”
It comes after Ozzy recently revealed why he won’t perform a full set at Black Sabbath's final gig. The frontman confessed he can’t commit to a full performance, admitting he can only manage "little bits and pieces." It’s been six years since Black Sabbath’s farewell tour, which ended in 2017. Now, the band is reuniting for one last performance, with Ozzy taking the stage alongside guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, and bassist Geezer Butler.
The music icon has faced several health challenges over the years, including being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and battling emphysema, a chronic lung condition that causes shortness of breath. Earlier this month, Ozzy revealed that the original line-up of the band would reunite for one last charity performance at Villa Park, Birmingham, on July 5. Titled Back to the Beginning, this concert will mark the band's final gig, as well as it being his last performance with the group.
The show will be Black Sabbath's first in eight years and the first time in two decades that the original members have shared the stage. Proceeds from the event will benefit Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.
On his decision to scale back his involvement in Black Sabbath’s final performance, the rock legend said on the Ozzy Speaks show: "I'm not planning on doing a set with Black Sabbath but I am doing little bits and pieces with them. I am doing what I can, where I feel comfortable." He added: "I'm not going to get up there and do a half-hearted Ozzy looking for sympathy. What's the f****** point in that? I'm not going up there in a f***ing wheelchair."
