Dancing on Ice's Michaela Strachan shares exciting baby news as oldest ever finalist
Dancing on Ice's Michaela Strachan may be getting ready for the ITV show's big final, but she's also revealed that she's preparing for a new addition to her big family
by Lauren Morris · The MirrorSpringwatch’s Michaela Strachan has made Dancing on Ice history at 58 as the oldest person to make it to a final, however the star has admitted that she doesn’t feel her age.
“I think more people in their 50s and 60s are being healthy and getting outdoors,” she said. “I’m the oldest celebrity to get to the finals but I don’t feel old.”
Michaela, who is partnered with Mark Hanretty on the ITV show, added that pushing herself outside the comfort zone in the rink has helped her stay younger.
“As you get older, it’s very easy to sit back and think, ‘I’m nearly 60 now, I’ll stay comfy in my chair.’ But actually, I’ve felt 20 years younger doing this so it’s really proved to me that you should keep pushing yourself. It does make you feel younger.”
Off the ice, Michaela is set to become a grandmother for the first time later this year, as her stepson Tom prepares to welcome a child with his fiancé. “I’m going to be a granny in two months so I’m granny on ice!” she said.
The TV presenter is step-mum to partner Nick Chevallier’s three children, while the couple also share son Oliver, 19, who will be watching his mum perform on Sunday night.
“My son is very competitive and he said to me, ‘Mum, you can just enjoy this week because in my eyes, you’ve won already.’ He said, ‘I’m so proud of you.’ We’ve worked so hard at trying to be the best we can be that we’ve won just by getting to the final.”
Whether Michaela takes home the trophy or not, the finalist is looking forward to giving her body a rest once the competition is over. “I’ve learned that I bruise easily,” she said. “I have a handprint bruise on my thigh and when I went to the sauna yesterday, that looked dodgy but that’s where Mark holds me.
“I’ve got bruises from where the boys are holding me for my showcase number, I’ve got bruises around my ribs. My body looks like a checkers board right now!”
The Springwatch star will be competing in Sunday's final alongside Coronation Street's Sam Aston and former footballer Anton Ferdinand as the trio perform on the ice for the final time.
Dancing on Ice's final airs on Sunday at 6:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
