by Zara Woodcock · The MirrorTransformers and Star Trek producer Roberto Orci died age 51, with his cause of death revealed.
The writer and producer, who was born in Mexico City to a Mexican father and Cuban mother, started his fruitful career in television with his school friend Alex Kurtzman on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys after being hired by Sam Raimi. It was not long before they both became showrunners and got involved in the sister series Xena: Warrior Princess.
They soon met with JJ Abrams, who was working on Alias at the time. Orci and Kurtzman went on to work on the Fox series Fringe, where Abrams and the two were listed as co-creators. Orci received his big break in film writing in 2004 for Michael Bay's The Island. With the success, he returned for Transformers.
The producer and writer passed away from kidney disease at his home in Los Angeles, according to Variety.
Orci also worked on Watchmen, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, The Proposal, Sleepy Hollow, the Star Trek reboot and more.
The star's other credits include The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Now You See Me, The Mummy and The Legend of Zorro. He achieved many accolades throughout his career including being named as one of The Hollywood Reporter's 50 most powerful Latinos in Hollywood.
In 2020, he married actor and screenwriter Adele Heather Taylor. In August last year, she filed a lawsuit against him accusing him of sexual and physical abuse. In the lawsuit, she also claimed he was a violent alcoholic. It was a response to a lawsuit Orci had filed months before where he alleged she assaulted him and financially manipulated him while he was struggling with alcoholism.
His spokesperson Salle Hofmesiter released a statement at the time saying: "Ms. Taylor’s counterclaim is an attempt to retaliate against her husband with fabricated allegations after he got a restraining order against her, filed for divorce, and sued her in June for assault, battery, and financially abusing him when he was vulnerable and trying to get treatment for alcoholism."
Before he married Adele, he married Melissa Blake but she filed for divorce in 2016.
The producer is survived by parents Macuqui Robau-Garcia and Roberto Orci Sr, his stepmum Jeanine Orci and his three siblings, Courtney Ford, JR Orci and Taylor Orci.
