Ethan Browne dead: Legendary singer Jackson's son found 'unresponsive'

The son of singer Jackson Browne, Ethan Browne, has died at the age of 52 family have revealed in a devastating statement on social media

Singer Jackson Browne's son has died aged 52. Ethan Browne was pronounced dead after being "found unresponsive" at his home, the family confirmed.

The tragic news was shared on Ethan's Facebook page. It revealed he died on November 25. The statement read: "'It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away."

They concluded by saying: "We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment.'"

The L.A. County Medical Examiner has deferred the cause of death, pending the investigation.

Ethan's career saw him take acting roles as well as being a model. His acting portfolio included work in the likes of Raising Helen, Hackers and Birds of Prey.

Ethan's mum, Phyllis, died by suicide at age 30 in March 1976, when Ethan was a toddler. She had married singer Jackson a year earlier. Speaking in 2021, Jackson said his "main focus" in life was being a dad after Phyllis' death.

Speaking to Route Magazine, he said: "I only had two things that I hoped I could fit together: being a songwriter and a father,” he said. “And I looked at it like this, if I have to only be a father, I hope I’ll know it, and just do that."

In 1974, Ethan featured alongside his dad on the cover of Rolling Stone. He was just weeks old at the time. The image showed Ethan nuzzling up to his dad's face.

The father-son bond continued throughout the years. And Jackson called his son a "great father" in 2022. In an interview with Tru Rock Revival, Jackson said: "Ethan is a great father. He's a great son, a great man.

"I love seeing him with his kids. When I see him in his movies, modelling, with his daughter, and being such a great dad, it makes me very proud. It makes me feel I've done something really right in my life.”

Following the news of his death, fans took to social media to share their sorrow. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: "Heartbreaking news that Jackson Browne’s adult son Ethan has passed away. I’ve not only had a musical connection to Jackson but a fatherly one too, as you can see by these two photos framed in my house."

Jackson has sold over 30 million albums in the United States since the mid-60s. He first found success writing songs for others before having hits of his own, like Running on Empty.
