BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood reveals mega strict rules for New Year bash
Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood's Christmas and New Year's Eve plans involve a heated pool, fireworks, and dressing to impress
by Katie Francis · The MirrorStrictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, 59, has described how he spends New Year’s Eve - and it sounds like an unforgettable experience.
The BBC star opened up about his plans for Christmas and beyond, and revealed that he has a very fun routine to call in the New Year. Craig set the tone of the gathering he hosts by divulging that the dress code was swimwear, and shared the wild activities he sets up for his guests.
“I heat the pool, I do fireworks at midnight and then after that everyone goes in and has a swim,” he shared to Closer. Craig explained how being a native Australian makes him see the festive season differently, having been born and raised with a boiling hot summer during our British winter. The dancer admitted he was taking on his Aussie traditions - meaning “all bikinis and speedos” - but shifting them over to his countryside life in the UK.
After having a dip in the pool on the big night, Craig laid his plans out for the day after. He shared that “drag lasagne” and “drag croquet” were on the cards, and explained that the capers are exactly what their names would suggest, and are “quite something” to be involved in.
The West End star also shared how he approaches Christmas, and made it clear that it’s not a pyjamas affair for him. Craig - who always looks chic on screen - shared that the main day is as big a reason as any to dress up well. "My mum would always say you put the Sunday best on for Christmas Day. You don’t want to be slobbing around in the slob zone? That’s not me,” he said, according to The Sun. He added that outfit changes are welcome for the evening and can have a fun twist, describing: “Put a wig on and a lash."
Craig’s description of his holiday plans seem full of sparkle, after former Strictly star Ola Jordan, 42, claimed that he’d lost his shine on the show. "I feel like Craig's lost his sparkle,” she said. “People loved Craig for what he was before. He would say it as it is, saying he wasn't good, that was rubbish, but it's almost like he's got to say a positive now. He’s obviously been told they’ve got to be positive and that they don’t want any negativity in the show and that comes from producers, but they need to look at what the public wants really. It’s too nicey nicey.
“Maybe they need to refresh. Strictly is an amazing show. It's an amazing family show. Everyone loves it. From grandparents to kids, everyone can watch it together. It's nice because as a family you can all enjoy something on the show,” she told Mecca Bingo. "I just think people could be getting a bit bored of it in some way. It is very samey and nice. With the judges, all the comments are really positive, but not everyone is good, so you've got to give some negative, constructive feedback."
