Pop star Anthony Kavanagh shocks fans with photo at peak of his addiction
by Lucy Needham · The MirrorNineties pop star Anthony Kavanagh shocked fans as he shared a bloated photo of himself in the grips of his battle with alcoholism.
The 47-year-old shared a selfie of his lowest moment to mark addiction awareness week. He admitted feeling 'lost, broken and hopeless' but told fans he was proof that recovery is possible.
He posted: 'On #addictionawarenessweek I want to make anyone struggling aware that recovery is possible. 20 months ago I was lost, broken and hopeless. Ask for help, I’m so glad I did. #Wedorecover #Noshame #addiction #youcandoit'.
During the peak of his fame he was known just as 'Kavana' and released a string of singles including I Can Make You Feel Good.
In September this year, Anthony celebrated being two years and six months sober - but said it hadn't been an easy journey. He wrote: "Two and half years sober. Not always easy but so worth it. If you’re struggling then reach out. My DMs are always open. X"
In February 2023, the artist marked one year of sobriety and shared a photo of himself entering rehab. Despite giving a thumbs up to the camera, the star said he was in a 'blackout.'
Posting before and after shots he penned: "Today I am 1 year sober. On the left, me arriving at rehab in a blackout. On the right, me today. Thanks to those that have helped me get here a day at a time."
