Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway and co-host Paul Brand delivered breaking updates amid the devastating California wildfires on Friday's show

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway started Friday's programme with 'breaking news' minutes into the ITV show.

The 57-year-old presenter, alongside her colleague Paul Brand, delivered heart-wrenching updates on the California wildfires.

At the start of the show, Kate announced: "Good Morning Britain, breaking news, the latest wildfire to hit Los Angeles overnight is being investigated as arson."

She continued: "Five fires are still raging across the city, fanned by increasingly strong winds. Ten people have been killed but officials warn the death toll is set to rise." reports the Manchester Evening News.

A series of major fires in California have killed ten people, ravaged communities, and sent thousands of people frantically fleeing their properties, including areas dotted with celebrity homes.

Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes, Ricki Lake and Oscar-winning songwriter Diane Warren are among those who have confirmed that their residences have been destroyed in the fires.

Thousands of firefighters were attempting to contain the original Palisades fire, with at least 70,000 people forced to evacuate their homes as the metropolitan area became blanketed in a thick cloud of smoke and ash.

A new fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills, threatening a host of tourist sites including the Walk of Fame, and Hollywood Bowl, which has evacuated staff, as strong winds scattered embers, which could affect more homes and lives.

On Thursday's Good Morning Britain, The Hobbit film series star Richard Armitage, who has spent time filming in Los Angeles as well as working with Hollywood stars, spoke about the devastating fires.

Richard said on the show: "There was a lot of texting last night, I’ve got representatives and friends and colleagues (in the area)… making sure they’re okay, but also thinking they’re busy dealing with evacuations. But it is apocalyptic. I’ve never seen it."

Meanwhile on Thursday's show, hosts Ranvir Singh and Ed Balls spoke to ITV showbiz correspondent star Ross King live from Los Angeles, who said it was the 'scariest' and 'weirdest' thing he's ever gone through as he planned to evacuate his own home.

Last month residents in Malibu were evacuated from a wind-driven blaze dubbed the Franklin Fire, which saw more than 4,000 acres burn and stars including Dick Van Dyke, Cher and Jane Seymour forced to leave their homes.
