The New York Times-published word game Wordle is being adapted into a primetime television game show series. Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie is set to take on hosting duties while Jimmy Fallon will act as a producer.

The announcement of Wordle’s TV adaptation came via The New York Times, which shared Guthrie and Fallon’s involvement as well. The Times itself, as the owner of the rights to Wordle, is set to serve as a production partner, and it will begin airing on NBC prime time television in early 2027.

Wordle is a word game first released as a free-to-play browser game in October 2021 by original designer Josh Wardle. He maintained the game as it caught the attention of the globe and set off an addictive craze. Eventually, Wardle sold the rights to Wordle to The New York Times in January 2022, citing that maintaining the game through its popular craze was too much of a burden.

The New York Times has been running and maintaining Wordle ever since alongside its iconic crossword puzzles with extra features for subscribers. As we await a release date in 2027, stay tuned for more updates on the Wordle topic.
