This week marks a big week for gaming in South Korea. The country's biggest game conference, G-Star 2025, kicked off in grand fashion with the reveal of an unexpected step forward for PlayStation's Horizon franchise. Publisher NCSoft is teaming up with Horizon developer Guerrilla Games to craft an MMORPG set in the game's universe called Horizon Steel Frontiers.

Horizon Steel Frontiers will take players back to the Deadlands, where they'll mix together the series' action and hunting with standard MMORPG mechanics. This will include an expansion of the game's combat, customizable characters, and broader horizons to explore. Expect to meet more of the titanic mechanical creatures that have made the Horizon world so captivating, some of which will lead to large-scale battles with multiple hunters battling cooperatively.

This is certainly not the first time that PlayStation has sought to expand on the world of Horizon, having previously released a VR game and even a LEGO game. There are few entities in gaming better suited for an MMORPG than the Korea-based NCSoft, which is best known for publishing ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2. NCSoft brought a full-blown portfolio to G-Star 2025, also showing off AION 2, Cinder City, and Limit Breakers Zero.

Horizon Steel Frontiers is being built for PC (playable through NCSoft's PURPLE platform) and mobile devices. There's no word on release timing, but this is certainly a game that we'll be sure to keep an eye on here at Shacknews.
