Fable gets fall 2026 release window
Playground Games shared details of an ambitious return of the Fable series as it targets an autumn release.
by TJ Denzer · ShacknewsToday was a huge day for Fable fans who have been waiting for any sign of news on the new game. Not only did we get to see gameplay in Fable at long last, but Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games also narrowed down a release window for the new game.
Fable is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5 in fall 2026, as revealed on the January 2026 Xbox Developer Direct. The game got a lengthy showcase of gameplay during the direct, giving us a look at combat and magic, but also social and economic gameplay as you grow from a child into a hero (or villain) of Albion and affect the lives of those you interact with from moment to moment.
It’s been a long time coming to hear anything so substantial for the new Fable. The series reboot was first teased in 2020, and has quietly been in development with little shown since. And we’d not seen gameplay up to this point. Today’s reveal was a great look at how Playground Games has taken Fable forward, as well as what we’ll be doing in the studio’s grand new adventure.
As we near fall this year, we’ll be on the lookout for a more concrete release date. So, stay tuned to the Fable topic for more updates and details.
