Indie pirate survival game Windrose has sold 1 million copies
Windrose hit Steam Early Access less than a week ago.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsWindrose, a new indie PvE survival game about pirates, has sold one million copies just six days after launching in Early Access. The developers have penned a letter to players as it continues to work on fixes and new content.
“Your support for the game is absolutely astonishing,” wrote developer Kraken Express in a Steam post. In addition to selling one million copies, Windrose has also peaked at 200,000 concurrent players on Steam.
In Windrose, players begin their journey as a shipwrecked pirate, stranded on an island. They’ll need to harvest resources, find food, and build a base as they work to restore their pirate glory. Players can eventually get a ship and engage in naval battles either alone or alongside other players. The game is being published in association with Pocketpair, the studio behind Palworld.
Windrose initially turned heads during the latest Steam Next Fest, where it was the third most-played demo of the event. To celebrate the milestone, Windrose developer Kraken Express joked that the boar, one of Windrose’s more menacing early enemies, has received a promotion.
