Resident Evil Veronica will expand on one of the franchise's most beloved entries
Claire Redfield is back in the spotlight for Capcom's next Resident Evil remake project.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsThe announcement trailer for Resident Evil Veronica made one thing immediately clear: this remake will expand its source material, giving players a greater look at Claire Redfield’s journey as she continues searching for her brother, Chris, amid the zombie outbreak. I learned a bit more about how Capcom is approaching the game during a private presentation at Summer Game Fest 2026.
Resident Evil Veronica producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi was in attendance for the private Capcom event and spoke about the upcoming game and his vision for it. During the presentation, he explained that Veronica will pick up three months after the events of Resident Evil 2 and expand Claire’s story. While the game will follow the events of the original Code: Veronica, it will include new elements as well. This was immediately apparent in the reveal trailer, which featured an extended sequence of Claire in Paris, France.
Claire Redfield has the same model as she did in Resident Evil 2, but with some slight tweaks to show her growth and maturation after the events of Raccoon City. Hirabayashi declined to share specific details, but he confirmed that Resident Evil Veronica is being developed by the teams behind the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, meaning players can expect the same sensibilities those games brought.
Yoshiaki Hirabayashi also shed light on the decision to drop the word “Code” from the original game’s title. He explained that the one-word subtitle aligns Resident Evil Veronica with the naming conventions of modern entries in the series (Biohazard, Village, Requiem) while still capturing the essence of the game.
Lastly, Resident Evil Veronica will be entirely third-person, despite the first-person POV used in the trailer. That’s the gist of everything I learned during the private presentation, which did not include any additional footage outside of what you saw in the trailer. Resident Evil Veronica is set to launch in 2027.
