Hollow Knight: Silksong includes a tribute character created by a fan who passed away
Shrine Guardian Seth was designed by Seth Goldman whom Team Cherry met with in person in 2020 before his passing.
by TJ Denzer · ShacknewsWith Hollow Knight: Silksong having been in development for around eight years, there were obviously fans who couldn’t be around at the time of its final arrival to see all of that hard work come to fruition. Such was the case of Seth Goldman, who passed away several years back from a rare bone cancer known as Ewing Sarcoma. It turns out, Goldman had a chance to meet with Team Cherry and design a character, and though he didn’t get to see the game released, his created character was still included in Silksong in memory of him.
GameRant was one of the ones to discover Goldman’s created character in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Named Shrine Guardian Seth in the game, the character is a hidden boss that can found around the Grand Gate near the Citadel. He can be fought and found again in different places throughout the game before ultimately providing a final challenge at certain minigames at Silksong, after which you get a reward in the form of the Guardian’s Momento home decoration.

It was in April 2020 that Seth Goldman shared a post on the official Hollow Knight Subreddit, where he shared that he had met with the Marty Lyons Foundation, which aims to provide last wishes to those with terminal diseases/diagnoses. Goldman’s wish was to meet with Team Cherry, who had made his favorite game, Hollow Knight. Team Cherry did indeed meet with Goldman and sweetened the deal by asking him to design a character for Silksong.
While Goldman didn’t get to see Shrine Guardian Seth in Silksong, his memory lives on in the character in a game that millions are enjoying and exploring worldwide, and that’s a solid-looking promise kept by Team Cherry.
