The Halo: Combat Evolved marks the franchise's switch to Unreal Engine 5.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsHalo Studios has announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the first-person shooter that started it all. Set for 2026, Campaign Evolved gives improved visuals, updated cinematics, and new content to the original Halo game. In addition to Xbox and PC, Halo: Campaign Evolved will mark the franchise’s debut on PlayStation with a PS5 release.
Halo: Campaign Evolved was announced during the Halo World Championships. Described as a “faithful yet modernized remake” of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo: Campaign Evolved, as its title implies, will only feature the Campaign of the original game. Halo Studios has confirmed that in addition to all of its visual bells and whistles, this remake adds three prequel missions that feature Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. The game will support split-screen co-op as well as online co-op with up to four players.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will mark a couple of firsts for the series. It was built entirely in Unreal Engine 5, a departure from the development of previous Halo games. It will also launch on the PS5, making it the first Halo game to ship on the rival platform.
In the official Xbox Wire post for the announcement, Halo Studio confirms that updated animations, remastered music, and 4K resolution will all be found in the upcoming remake. Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch in 2026, the 25th anniversary of Halo: Combat Evolved.
