Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition announced for January
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will also receive a free content update on both Switch consoles.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsNintendo has announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will receive a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in January. It’ll add improved visuals, larger online lobbies, and mouse support. In addition, the base game will receive new content with Version 3.0, which will release on the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
A new overview trailer outlines everything in store for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Among the new additions exclusive to Nintendo’s new console is the Megaphone. This item lets users call out to their villagers using the Switch 2’s microphone. When you say their name, they’ll respond to you, making it easy to locate them around the island. When playing online, islands can now hold up to 12 players on the Switch 2 Edition.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Ver. 3.0 is coming to both the Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game and adds a heap of new content to dig into. This includes a new hotel run by Kapp’n’s family. You’ll work with them to attract more guests by decorating rooms based on different themes. As part of this expansion, new furniture and clothing items will be added to the game.
ACNH will also add Dream Islands, giving players a large new area to build and customize. Similar to standard islands, Dream Islands can be terraformed and outfitted with furniture, bridges, stairs, and other structures. Players can visit each other’s Dream Islands through local or online multiplayer.
Lastly, Nintendo confirmed a few collaborations coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, and LEGO are all getting new furniture and clothing items in ACNH. Zelda and Splatoon will add new villagers based on characters from their respective franchises.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and the free Ver. 3.0 update will both be released on January 15, 2026. For everything Nintendo, stick with Shacknews.
