To break your way through boulders and cracked walls, you will need to get some bombs. This is a type of weapon in the game, but you will be running into these obstacles long before you have the means to get your hands on them.

To get bombs, play through the game until you travel through time for the first time, bringing you to the Age of Reconstruction. You will come to Littlehope Village, where you need to talk to some NPCs before setting out toward the north. Make your way up, then a bit to the left from the teleport point, and you will reach Neverwither.

Here, you will find an NPC called the Shrewd Adventurer. Talk to him, and you will find out that he also needs a way through some boulders, and he will give you the Blew Your Troubles Away side quest. Make your way back to Littlehope (the runs of the main city in the previous age) and go to the General Goods store, and talk to the Hearty Proprieter to get some bombs from him.

He will ask you to use some against the beast tribes, so you'll need to equip them in your inventory and then make your way to the west to find some beasts. Throw the bombs to blow up the monsters, then go back and talk to the Heart Proprieter again to get more bombs, then make your way back to the Shrewd Adventurer to blow up the boulder blocking his path.
