Resident Evil Requiem (aka Resident Evil 9) dropped last week, and it’s garnering praise from across the industry. Ahead of the game's release, Shacknews Head of Video Greg Burke got to sit down with voiceover actor Nick Apostolides to talk about how he evolved Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil’s latest chapter.

Apostolides told Greg that part of preparing for Resident Evil Requiem involved seeking some guidance from a peer —Paul Mercer, another veteran actor who voiced Leon in everything from Resident Evil 4 (2005) to many of the animated movies.

“He’s a fantastic, fantastic voiceover actor,” Apostolides said of Mercer in the interview. “I reached out to him before the filming of Resident Evil 4 Remake, and I asked if he would just coach me, just as a general teacher. He taught me quite a bit, so I had a bunch of sessions with him.”

Later in the interview, Apostolides discusses Leon’s famous propensity for one-liners, misconceptions about acting, and more. Check out the full interview between Greg and Nick below.

I got the opportunity to review Resident Evil Requiem and loved it, awarding it our coveted 10 out of 10 score. “Resident Evil Requiem is a crown jewel in Capcom’s survival horror crown,” I wrote in my review. “Its characters develop realistically, its rhythm between action and horror should more than satisfy fans of both styles, and its story gripped me from beginning to end. This is Resident Evil at its finest, and I can’t wait to see where Capcom takes the series next.”
