Resident Evil Requiem has one storyline, but you switch between Leon & Grace
Capcom shared that time is split equally between the two with Grace's gameplay being based on RE2 while Leon's is based on RE4.
by TJ Denzer · ShacknewsThis last week, we learned that Leon Kennedy will indeed be a playable character in Resident Evil Requiem, but we didn’t know the extent to which that would be until The Game Awards 2025. Now we’ve seen Leon will be a full-time duo protagonist alongside Grace Ashcroft. What’s more, Capcom spoke to the degree Leon will be in the game, claiming he and Grace will be balanced evenly throughout the single-player playthrough.
Resident Evil Requiem director Akifumi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa recently spoke to Automaton about Leon’s role in the game. According to the developers, they’ve tried to make Leon and Grace’s playtime about equal. There’s also a difference in the gameplay styles and mechanics of their segments outside of different equipment and moves. While Grace is said to play like 2019’s Resident Evil 2, Leon will apparently play like the 2023 Resident Evil 4 reemake.
It was an interesting choice to have Leon back for Resident Evil Requiem. Many thought this would simply be a spotlight of new and seldom seen characters like Grace and Alyssa Ashcroft, but rumors of Leon being in the game have been pretty regular since its announcement.
Now that Leon is confirmed and we know what we’re doing with him, it makes Requiem’s launch in February 2026 all the more exciting. Stay tuned to the Resident Evil Requiem topic for more updates.
