Lee Min Ki Transforms Into A Terminal Cancer Patient In New Drama “Mary Kills People”
by R Suhaila · SoompiMBC’s upcoming drama “Mary Kills People” has unveiled its first stills of Lee Min Ki in character!
“Mary Kills People” follows the story of Woo So Jung (Lee Bo Young), a doctor who illegally assists terminally ill patients with euthanasia, and a detective who tracks her down.
On July 3, the production team released character stills of Lee Min Ki, who plays Jo Hyun Woo in the drama. The photos capture Jo Hyun Woo’s vacant gaze as he stands at the boundary between life and death.
Jo Hyun Woo is a terminal cancer patient with no chance of recovery. Orphaned and alone, he makes a living as a delivery rider. As he approaches the end of his life, he turns to Woo So Jung, an emergency room doctor who provides physician-assisted death, seeking her help.
Lee Min Ki shared why he chose to join the project, saying, “I’ve always been interested in the topic of physician-assisted death. It’s something I’ve thought about after seeing documentaries on it.” He added, “It’s a social issue that appears in the news from time to time, so I wanted to be part of a story that explores it.”
He continued, “I approached the role with the mindset of staying true to the script and built the story from there. ‘Mary Kills People’ includes humor, sorrow, and a lot to think about. I’ll see you soon.”
The production team stated, “Lee Min Ki will deliver a deeply nuanced performance that captures the complex emotions of Jo Hyun Woo, a man on the brink of death. We encourage viewers to look forward to his portrayal, which raises powerful questions about life and death and carries the story with emotional weight and depth.”
“Mary Kills People” is set to premiere on August 1 at 10 p.m. KST.
