“Am I right, ladies?” - Saoirse Ronan goes viral for shutting down jokes about self-defense

by · IrishCentral

Saoirse Ronan has gone viral for her deft retort to men's reactions on ways to protect yourself from attackers during a conversation on "The Graham Norton Show" that aired on October 25.

Ronan, 30, was joined by her “Foe” co-star and fellow Irish actor Paul Mescal, as well as Denzel Washington and Eddie Redmayne for Friday’s show.

During their chats, Redmayne spoke about how he was taught how a phone can be used as a weapon to "butt" an attacker in the neck during his training for his role in the upcoming miniseries "The Day of the Jackal."

“Who’s actually going to think about that?!" Mescal interjected, "If someone attacks me, I’m not gonna go - phone.”

Ronan attempted to respond but was drowned out by laughs from the audience, as well as from host Norton and her fellow guests.

Mescal continued, mimicking being on a phone and saying, "Sorry, one second and 'pow!'" drawing more laughs.

“That’s a very good point,” Redmayne said, agreeing with Mescal.

But Ronan finally got an edge in on the conversation: “That’s what girls have to think about all the time."

Nearly stunned into silence, the men acknowledged Ronan's point with slightly uncomfortable nods.

“Am I right ladies?” Saoirse asked the audience, drawing her own round of claps.

A clip of the interaction shared on X by user @rvdlovess has gone massively viral, drawing more than 156k likes and nearly 57 million views since being posted on Friday.

"She hushed them real quick," one person replied to the post on X.

"That smile at the beginning is when she knew she’s gonna locked in  - Saoirse the QUEEN you are!!" another said.

Other posts praised Saoirse for speaking up, even after initially being drowned out, while others pointed to the privilege that some men don't even realize they have when it comes to safety.
