Saoirse Ronan debuts daring new look at Venice Film Festival
· IrishCentralThe Dublin actress, who’s currently filming the Beatles biopic where she’ll star as Linda McCartney, made her directorial debut with the short film "Paper Plane".
The film premiered on Thursday night (September 10), and Saoirse rocked a new hairstyle while walking the red carpet - showing off a micro fringe as she posed for the cameras.
Saoirse wore a figure-hugging navy maxi dress that boasted a thigh-high slit and a silver zipper for the evening’s festivities.
As for the film, Saoirse’s directorial debut sees a defiant young girl stage a silent protest, refusing to return home until her father’s disruptive presence is gone. Her mother must then make the decision to follow her or let her go.
The film stars Martha Malone, Tim Creed and Clare Dunne, while Saoirse called the film a "love letter" to her younger self and a younger version of her mum.
"Paper Plane is a love letter to a younger version of myself, and a younger version of my mother," Saoirse said.

"I wanted to explore how a young mind tries to make sense of something beyond their control; how love is expressed in times of pain, and how self- preservation takes root when one has spent their life watching someone they love struggle to love themselves and others in a healthy way.
"The paper plane serves as a symbol of lost childhood and innocence, a need for connection between two people who love each other deeply but can’t find common ground."
Saoirse was cast as Linda McCartney in one of the four Beatles biopics that are set to be released in 2028, and looked unrecognizable as she was spotted filming in London.
Photographers caught Saoirse hopping out of a black cab while in full Linda garb, sporting a short-sleeved blouse, floral miniskirt, and low-heeled shoes.
In the scene where she was photographed, she greeted Paul Mescal - who will play Paul McCartney in the film about his life. The four biopics, which are billed as a "four-film cinematic event," will be released in 2028.
