‘The Life of Chuck’ Teaser: Tom Hiddleston Leads Apocalyptic Stephen King Adaptation – Film News in Brief

Following the film winning the TIFF People’s Choice Award last fall, audiences are getting their first official look at Mike Flanagan’s life-affirming flick “The Life of Chuck.”

Flanagan trades the usual scares of “Doctor Sleep” and “The Haunting of Hill House” for a story about life and what it means to move forward when all hope is lost. Adapted from Stephen King‘s novella, “The Life of Chuck” is split into three distinct parts and told in reverse order, following the mysterious life of seemingly ordinary accountant Chuck Krantz (Tom Hiddleston). The cast also includes Jacob Tremblay, Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew Lillard, Karen Gillan and Mia Sara, with Nick Offerman narrating.

“The universe is large and it contains multitudes, but it also contains me,” Chuck says in the teaser as he stands on the street in his suit.

“The Life of Chuck” is set to release in theaters from Neon on June 6 before expanding throughout the month.

Edgar Wright, Glen Powell, Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo to Headline CinemaCon’s Creative Community Luncheon

Filmmaker Edgar Wright and the cast of his Paramount film “The Running Man” — Glen Powell, Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo — will headline the annual CinemaCon Creative Community luncheon on April 3 in Las Vegas. Powell will also be honored as Star of the Year later that evening at the Big Screen Achievement Awards Celebration.

The luncheon will be moderated by Rotten Tomatoes editor Jacqueline Coley.

“The excitement for The Running Man among the exhibition community is extremely high, and the luncheon presents an opportunity to hear thoughts and insights about the film and our industry from this incredible group of talented individuals,” said Michael O’Leary, President and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners, in a statement. “The Running Man” opens on Nov. 7.

The Egyptian Theatre announces “The Iron Giant” and “The Incredibles” Double Feature with Brad Bird Q&A

The Egyptian Theatre and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association will host a double feature of “The Iron Giant” and “The Incredibles” with special guest Brad Bird. On Wednesday March 26, Bird (a three-time LAFCA award winner) will join LAFCA member and Variety chief film critic Peter Deburge. 

The evening will begin with the theatrical cut of “The Iron Giant” at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Q&A with Bird and Deburge at 9:00 p.m. After a 15-minute intermission, “The Incredibles” will begin at 9:45 to close out the evening. The double-feature continues a screening series celebrating LAFCA’s 50th anniversary. Each film selected for the series represents a choice made by the organization at its annual vote. Deaf Movie Database Launched by DeafMovie.org as Educational Resource Centering Deaf Film Community

DeafMovie.org has created a new resource called Deaf Movie Database, or DMDb, that allows users to find information about deaf film professionals and movies featuring deaf culture.

DMDb, created by Emilio Insolera, includes a film catalog that provides information on the deaf film workers involved in a given film and notes instances of non-deaf professionals playing deaf characters. Users can also see how much sign language a film contains.

DMDb additionally has a Careers section to enable networking, a reviews feature that highlights deaf critics and includes user participation, film festival information and an educational “Dummies” guide about working with the deaf film community. There is also an option to watch films for free via the database.
