‘Heartstopper Forever’ Trailer: Kit Connor and Joe Locke’s Love Story Wraps Up in Netflix Movie

by · Variety

The first trailer for “Heartstopper Forever” is here, previewing how Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring’s love story will reach its conclusion — at least on Netflix. The feature-length film, which will wrap up the beloved “Heartstopper” storyline after its three-season run, will begin streaming on July 17.

Creator and executive producer Alice Oseman, who adapted “Heartstopper” from her series of bestselling graphic novels, is writing the screenplay, with Wash Westmoreland (“Still Alice”) directing. Stars Kit Connor (Nick) and Joe Locke (Charlie) are returning as executive producer. Also expected to return are co-stars William Gao (Tao), Yasmin Finney (Elle), Corinna Brown (Tara), Kizzy Edgell (Darcy), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Rhea Norwood (Imogen) and Leila Khan (Sahar). The trailer is fittingly soundtracked to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Stupid Song” from her new album “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” which dropped last week.

Since its debut in April 2022, “Heartstopper” has become a cultural touchstone, depicting the burgeoning romance between Charlie and Nick — as well as between Tao and Elle, Tara and Darcy, and Imogen and Sahar — with a forthright tenderness that has won over a legion of fiercely loyal fans. The show has also made Connor and Locke into bona fide stars: The former starred on Broadway in “Romeo + Juliet” with Rachel Zegler and in the visceral Iraq War film “Warfare,” while the latter starred opposite Kathryn Hahn in Marvel’s “Agatha All Along” on Disney+.

The third season of “Heartstopper,” which debuted in 2024, concludes with Nick and Charlie having sex for the first time, as Charlie finds a new confidence following his struggles with his mental health, while Nick contemplates which university he wants to attend. What Nick’s impending graduation could mean for their relationship — not to mention for Nick and Charlie’s friend group — is left unanswered; since Oseman’s final volume of her “Heartstopper” graphic novels hasn’t yet been published, unlike with previous seasons, fans do not know how Nick and Charlie’s love story will end on the show.
