‘Muppet Show’ Revival Trailer: Kermit, Miss Piggy Return for 50th Anniversary Special With Maya Rudolph and Sabrina Carpenter

Disney+ and ABC unveiled the trailer for “The Muppet Show,” a special revival event marking the franchise’s 50th anniversary. The special, premiering Feb. 4, will feature guest stars Sabrina Carpenter, Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogen, who also serves as executive producer.

The special, which was announced in September 2025, sees the beloved Muppets ensemble return to the original Muppet Theatre for a night of music, comedy and chaos with Carpenter as their special guest. The event streams on Disney+ at 12 a.m. PST/3 a.m. EST and airs on ABC at 9 p.m. EST/PST.
A new version of “The Muppet Show Theme (2026),” performed by the Muppets and produced by Grammy and Emmy winner Bill Sherman, will be available Feb. 4.
Veteran Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will perform the majority of the iconic characters. Goelz, who has worked with the Muppets for over 50 years, performed on the original series and originated characters including Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.
Created by Jim Henson, the original “The Muppet Show” ran from 1976 to 1981 and aired in over 100 countries. The series featured guest stars including Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minnelli and Paul Simon. During its run, the show earned Emmy, Grammy, Peabody and BAFTA awards. Time magazine called it “the most popular television entertainment now being produced on Earth” in 1978.
Alex Timbers directs and executive produces the special alongside Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee for Point Grey Pictures. David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter and Michael Steinbach are executive producers for The Muppets Studio. Carpenter is also an executive producer along with Albertina Rizzo, Vogel, and Jacobson. 20th Television will produce along with Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio, and Point Grey.
All five seasons of “The Muppet Show” are available to stream on Disney+.
