‘People We Meet on Vacation’ Jumps to Top of Bestseller Lists Following Netflix Adaptation

Rom-com fans were gifted this week with Netflix‘s adaptation of Emily Henry’s book “People We Meet on Vacation.” But people who were introduced to best friends-turned-lovers Poppy and Alex for the first time on their screens are now flocking to Amazon to acquaint themselves with the original IP. The book has unsurprisingly returned to the top of bestseller lists following its streaming release.

Starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, the movie follows the odd-couple pairing throughout many years of travels as the free-spirited Poppy and up-tight Alex grow up and struggle with their increasingly intimate feelings for one another. Poppy and Alex do ultimately end up together, but only after overcoming their fear of losing their friendship.

Fans might be particularly keen on checking out the book because of its “spicier” scenes, which Henry and director Brett Haley both admitted to toning down for the film. “When Brett first started considering cutting it, that was because they had started doing test screenings and people who, especially people who weren’t familiar with the books, felt kind of like it was a hard right turn in the movie,” Henry told Variety about the book-to-screen changes.

Ahead of Netflix’s highly anticipated release of People We Meet on Vacation,” the streaming giant announced that it would be adapting several more of Henry’s books including “Funny Story” and “Happy Place.”
