Apple TV’s ‘The Studio’ Sets Record for a Freshman Comedy After BAFTA TV Win and Awards Season Sweep

by · Variety

Apple TV‘s “The Studio” added the final marquee trophy to one of the most dominant awards runs in modern television history on Sunday, taking the International category at the BAFTA Television Awards in London on Sunday night.

After taking home the top prizes at the Primetime Emmys, Golden Globes, The Actor Awards, PGA, DGA and WGA, it has now cemented its place in history as the most decorated freshman comedy ever produced.

The win marks Apple TV’s first victory in the BAFTA Television International category and makes “The Studio” the first comedy to claim the prize in a decade. It also positions the Seth Rogen-led satire as the most-awarded series of this year’s industry cycle, capping a 12-month run that has effectively run the table across the major U.S. and international guild and critics organizations.

Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of embattled Continental Studios, in the inside-Hollywood comedy that quickly emerged last spring as one of the most discussed shows of the year. The series follows Remick and his core team of infighting executives as they wrangle narcissistic talent and corporate overlords, with every casting call, set visit and award show landing somewhere between glittering success and career-ending catastrophe.

“The Studio” arrived at the BAFTA ceremony already the most Emmy-winning freshman comedy in history, with 13 wins this past cycle, including outstanding comedy series and outstanding lead actor in a comedy for Rogen, in addition to setting the record as the most awarded comedy ever.

Its broader haul includes Golden Globe wins for best comedy series and best actor in a comedy for Rogen; Critics Choice wins for comedy series, best actor for Rogen and best supporting actor for Ike Barinholtz; an American Film Institute TV Program of the Year honor; and a clean sweep at the Actor Awards including outstanding ensemble, outstanding male actor for Rogen and a posthumous outstanding female actor win for Catherine O’Hara. The show also claimed top series honors from the Producers Guild, Writers Guild, Directors Guild, American Cinema Editors, Art Directors Guild, Cinema Audio Society, Casting Society of America, Costume Designers Guild, American Society of Cinematographers and Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild.

Apple TV landed three total wins at Sunday’s BAFTA TV ceremony. The Sunday haul extends a sustained BAFTA run for Apple TV that includes four wins in 2025 and four more in 2024. All three of Apple TV’s winning titles are streaming globally.
