‘Black Swan’ Getting 15th Anniversary Imax Re-Release

by · Variety

Cinephiles, rejoice! You can now watch Natalie Portman do bloody battle with a pesky hangnail on the widest screen imaginable.

This summer, Searchlight Pictures is teaming up with Imax for special screenings of Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan,” the horror masterpiece that did for ballet what “Jaws” did for beach-going when it opened 15 years ago. It features Portman in her Oscar-winning role as an ambitious, increasingly delusional ballerina, hellbent on convincing her demanding director that she can dance the dual role of the white and the black swan. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, including for best picture and director. It grossed over $329 million globally. Mila Kunis co-starred as Portman’s more confident rival, who prefers her cheeseburgers “extra bloody.”

On Aug. 21 and Aug. 24, audiences will get to relive all the backstage drama when “Black Swan 15th Anniversary Exclusive: Remastered for Imax” launches on over 200 screens as the beginning of a series of celebrations for the film’s anniversary this year. Searchlight says the remastered version will be an “opportunity to experience the film’s full cinematic scope and depth for the first time ever in the Imax format.”

Searchlight is debuting a new trailer and poster today ahead of the film’s exclusive Imax screenings. Ticket holders will take home a commemorative poster, though the studio cautions that offer is only good “while supplies last.”

Aronofsky is returning to theaters this summer with “Caught Stealing,” a crime thriller with Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz that will debut on Aug. 29. Portman most recently appeared opposite John Krasinski in the action-adventure “Fountain of Youth.”
