‘SNL U.K.’ Cold Open Sees ‘Daddy Keir’ Starmer Invite ‘Britain’s Big Three’ Peppa Pig, Harry Kane and Olivia Colman To Cheer Up U.K.
by K.J. Yossman · Variety‘Saturday Night Live U.K.’ opened with another Keir Starmer sketch for its third episode, with the British Prime Minister calling upon the services of the country’s biggest celebrities – soccer star Harry Kane, actor Olivia Colman and cartoon character Peppa Pig – to cheer up the nation amid fears of war and a cost of living crisis.
“Look, I know I’m not inspiring,” said Starmer, played by ‘SNL U.K.’ castmember George Fouracres. “When I applied to join [suicide prevention organization] the Samaritans, I brought the vibe down so much that the interviewer called the Samaritans.”

In an effort to lighten the mood, Starmer invites England soccer player Harry Kane (played by Al Nash) to the podium, asking if he can give the country one of his “rousing team talks.” Kane is followed by “Paddington” star Colman (Emma Sidi), clutching an Oscar, who is introduced as “a Briton with a smile that could light up a room, which could be useful when the power runs out.”
“Hello, gosh, this is a bit sexy, isn’t it, flirting with Iran and playing with oil?” says Sidi as Colman. “Next thing you know, then there’s an energy shortage, the power is off and we’re snogging in the dark. Aren’t I naughty?”
Starmer then introduces the final speaker, whom he says “combines two of my greatest interests, outstanding British television and pork,” at which point Annabel Marlow joins the trio sporting a fake snout and pair of pig ears on her head.
“Thank you Daddy Keir,” says Marlow, with a snort. “Life is hell, but it doesn’t last long, and soon the sadness will end.”
Fouracres tells Peppa “You’re very different from how you seem on the telly” to which she responds, “You’re very similar.”
At which point the power cuts out and Sidi dives onto Fouracres. “Fend for yourselves, everyone!” Starmer cries. “Olivia Colman’s trying to kiss me.”
The four actors then launch into the show’s classic opening line: “Live from London, it’s Saturday Night!”
