‘Masha and the Bear’ Movie to Be Produced by Creator of YouTube Record-Breaking Series (EXCLUSIVE)

by · Variety

Oleg Kuzovkov, the creator of hit 3D animated show “Masha and the Bear,” is to produce the first original feature film based on the record-breaking property.

The show is incredibly popular on YouTube and one of its episodes is the most-watched non-music video on the platform: the episode titled “Masha and the Bear: Recipe for Disaster” has recorded more than 4.6 billion views.

Kuzovkov recently regained creative control over his characters following the expiration of the license he granted to Animaccord, and has set up independent animation production company Studio MiM, based in both Los Angeles and Moscow, to produce the film and its sequels.

The film represents a clean break from the Animaccord series. “The creative team will introduce global audiences to a rebooted vision of the characters as they explore new adventures in their unique kind-hearted comedy manner,” Studio MiM said.

Kuzovkov said: “I’m truly touched by this opportunity to expand the world of ‘Masha and the Bear’ to its first long-form feature. It’s an exciting creative challenge – one that I wholeheartedly embrace – and my wonderfully creative and excited team is equally energized and eager to bring it to life with the same spirit, humor and heart that made the old series so beloved.”

The plan is to complete a production pipeline of the first full-length feature film by the end of 2028.

Animaccord was built by Kuzovkov from the ground up in 2008, when he drew together animation artists along with composer Vasily Bogatirev and sound engineer Boris Kutnevich, who is also the Bear’s voice.
