‘Daredevil: Born Again’: Tony Dalton to Reprise ‘Hawkeye’ Role as The Swordsman (EXCLUSIVE)

by · Variety

The Swordsman is slashing his way back into the MCU.

Tony Dalton is reprising his role as Jack Duquesne, aka The Swordsman, in two episodes of the upcoming Marvel series “Daredevil: Born Again” on Disney+, Variety can exclusively report. Dalton’s return isn’t a shock to fans as there were rumors he may be returning to the Marvel fold in “Born Again,” which is bringing back several popular street-level characters from Netflix’s “Daredevil” and “The Punisher.”

Dalton first appeared as Duquesne in the Marvel and Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” which premiered in 2021. Duquesne, the alter ego of the comic book character The Swordsman, debuted in live-action with a twist on his comic origins. He crossed paths with the new Hawkeye Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld, and was engaged to her mother Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga). At first, Duquesne seemed like he may take a villainous role, after he was framed for his uncle’s murder and stole the sword that belonged to the previous Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). In the finale of “Hawkeye,” however, it’s revealed that Eleanor was the mastermind behind the plot and had been working with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin.

Since “Hawkeye” ended, Marvel fans haven’t seen Duquesne pop up again. Since D’Onofrio is also returning as Kingpin for “Daredevil: Born Again,” it makes sense that his co-star Dalton would make the jump to the gritty, violent series. “Daredevil: Born Again” marks the the returns of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye after they starred in three seasons of “Daredevil” on Netflix. The Disney+ continuation is also bringing back Jon Bernthal as the Punisher after he led two seasons of his own Netflix series.

After starring in many Spanish-language shows and movies, Dalton nabbed his first major Hollywood role as the sinister Lalo Salamanca in “Better Call Saul.” Next up, he’s starring in the upcoming action thriller “Trap House” with Dave Bautista and Bobby Cannavale, produced by Signature Films and Scott Free Productions.

Dalton is represented by Gilbertson Entertainment, Gersh, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman.
