Bruno Mars Sings ‘I Just Might’ Live for the First Time During Throwback Grammys Performance

by · Variety

Leave it to Bruno Mars to steal the show before the awards even started.

Mars and Rosé opened up the show at center stage, with the Blackpink member planting a kiss on his cheek before the duo launched into a rock-leaning rendition of “APT.” Mars worked the crowd as Rosé belted the opening vocals of their collaborative hit, which has dominated streaming charts since its October 2024 release.

Later in the ceremony, Mars returned to the stage for the live debut of “I Just Might,” the lead single from his highly anticipated album “The Romantic.” Mars and his entire band were decked out in red against a backdrop featuring a massive heart — a nod to the album’s title. The energetic performance showed Sombr waving his arms in the air excitedly and Lady Gaga singing along from her seat.

Mars entered the evening with three nominations: record of the year, song of the year and best pop duo/group performance, all for “APT.” featuring Rosé. The collaboration with the Blackpink member dropped in October 2024 as the first single from Rosé’s solo debut “Rosie.” The track dominated 2025 streaming, landing at No. 1 on Apple Music’s year-end global charts across music, Shazam, radio and lyrics.

The performance marks another Grammys appearance for the 15-time winner, who has been a fixture in the music industry since his 2010 breakthrough with “Just the Way You Are.” Mars previously scored record of the year victories for “Uptown Funk” (2014), “24K Magic” (2016) and “Leave the Door Open” (2021) with Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic.

At last year’s ceremony, Mars and Lady Gaga delivered a tribute performance of the Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreamin'” dedicated to those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Mars is gearing up to drop “The Romantic” on Feb. 27, his first solo album in nearly a decade following 2016’s “24K Magic.” The project’s opening single “I Just Might” landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, putting Mars in elite company as the fourth solo male with 10 or more chart-toppers alongside Drake, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.

His upcoming “The Romantic Tour” is almost sold out and kicks off in April with .Paak returning as DJ Pee .Wee.
