by · Variety

Mae Martin has set an overall deal with Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively.

Under the deal, Martin will continue to develop and create TV series for the streaming giant, while the deal also includes a new stand up special.

“Over the last seven years I’ve been lucky to build relationships at Netflix that have felt supportive and creatively empowering, allowing my stories (and weird jokes about snow globes, etc.) to reach a global audience,” Martin said. “I’m so grateful to continue that relationship, and this vote of confidence will allow me to elevate other voices as well! I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been cooking up.”

Martin first worked with Netflix on the semi-autobiographical series “Feel Good.” Martin starred as a fictionalized version of themself in the show, which aired for two seasons and received strong critical acclaim. The cast also included Charlotte Ritchie, Lisa Kudrow, Phil Burgers, and Adrian Lukis. Martin then released the stand up special “SAP” on Netflix in 2023.

Most recently, Martin created, wrote, and starred in the Netflix limited series “Wayward,” which debuted in 2025. The show — which also boasted Oscar nominee Toni Collette among its cast — examined dark secrets buried in a small town in Vermont that contains a school for troubled teens. The show premiered at TIFF and spent five weeks on the Netflix Global Top 10 chart.

“Mae is a singular voice who brings a rare combination of originality and curiosity to everything they do,” said Danielle Woodrow, director of content for Netflix Canada. “We were thrilled with the success of Wayward and can’t wait to see what they dream up next.”
