Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne in Talks to Play Mismatched CIA Agents in Doug Liman Spy Thriller ‘Star One,’ CAA Launching Sales in Cannes (EXCLUSIVE)

Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne are in talks to star in “Star One,” a new spy thriller from Doug Liman set to launch at the market in Cannes.

Liman — who recently wrapped AI thriller “Bitcoin” starring Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson — is directing from a script by David Coggeshall. BAFTA Award nominee P.J. van Sandwijk (“Ferrari”) will produce for Storyteller Productions alongside Project X Entertainment’s William Sherak (“Scream 7”) James Vanderbilt (“Nuremberg”), and Paul Neinstein (“The Night Agent”). CAA is representing domestic sales for the film, with Black Bear handling international.

“Star One” follows two wildly mismatched CIA agents, the first daring and charismatic (Teller), and the other, a strait-laced strategist (Redmayne), who must work together to execute a top-secret mission: a treacherous journey across thousands of miles of enemy territory to covertly deliver arms. As per the synopsis: “This is the untold true story of the first intelligence star ever awarded for one of the most important yet least known missions in modern history.”

Liman is knowns for hits such as “Edge of Tomorrow,” starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and the Matt Damon-led “The Bourne Identity.” His 2010 CIA thriller “Fair Game,” starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn, premiered in competition at Cannes. Liman’s other films include “The Instigators,” “Road House,” “Jumper,” and “Swingers.”

Teller earned widespread critical acclaim for his breakout performance in “Whiplash,” and went on to star in “Top Gun: Maverick.” He also led Apple Original Films’ “The Gorge,” and can currently be seen starring in the hit biopic “Michael” and was most recently featured in A24’s acclaimed “Eternity.” He’s next be seen James Gray’s “Paper Tiger” which he starts opposite Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver, which is set to premiere in Cannes and was recently acquired by Neon.

An Oscar and BAFTA winner for his lead role in “The Theory of Everything,” Redmayne, meanwhile, is currently in production on the second season of Peacock and Sky’s hit series “The Day of Jackal.” The first season earned him Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics’ Choice nominations. Up next, he’ll star in Warner Bros.’ “Panic Carefully” opposite Julia Roberts.

Coggeshall wrote “The Family Plan” and “The Family Plan 2,” both starring Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan. He also wrote “Orphan: First Kill” and the upcoming “Orphan 3,” as well as “The Deliverance.”
