Bad Bunny Makes Grammys History as First Spanish-Language Artist to Earn Best Album, Record and Song Nominations in One Year

by · Variety

Three years after “Un Verano Sin Ti” became the first Spanish-language album to earn a Grammy nomination in the album of the year category, Bad Bunny‘s latest release, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” (“I Should Have Taken More Photos”), has earned him the nod once again.

Adding to the milestone, the album’s title track also earned him nominations in the song and record of the year categories — making Bad Bunny the second Spanish-language act to appear in the category and the first to appear across the big three in the same year. (“Despacito” from was the first Spanish-language song to appear in both the record and song categories in 2018.)

The genre-expansive and culturally-empowering “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” notched a total of six nominations on Friday. Bad Bunny is also up for best album cover (a new category), best música urbana album and best global music performance for “EoO.”

His sixth solo studio album was released on Jan. 5 through Rimas Entertainment and follows his previous record, “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana,” which was nominated for a Grammy in the música urbana album category in 2025 (it lost to Residente’s “Las Letras Ya No Importan”).

“Debí” led to Bad Bunny’s expansive 31-date residency in Puerto Rico over the summer. The 17-song record is composed of música jíbara, or Puerto Rican folk, a staple of the island’s musical and cultural traditions, and tackles themes of political resistance and cultural pride.

“At the peak of my career and popularity, I want to show the world who I am, who Benito Antonio is, and who Puerto Rico is,” he said upon its release. “Seeing it come to life has brought me immense happiness. I’ve always been honest with my followers, and through this new production, they’ll continue to learn more about me as I, too, discover more about myself.”

He has won three Grammys — twice for música urbana album and once for Latin pop album — and has earned 10 nominations overall. At the Latin Grammys on Nov. 13, he leads all nominees with 12 nods, including record of the year, album of the year and song of the year for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.”
