OG Cast Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz Have Reportedly Signed On For a New ‘The Mummy’ Movie!

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

Despite efforts to revive The Mummy franchise with a reboot of the movie starring Tom Cruise back in 2017, fans believed the series wasn’t the same without original cast member, Brendan Fraser, as adventurer, Rick O’Connell.

Well, fans of the movie franchise will be pleased to know that both Fraser as well as Rachel Weisz, who played Evelyn Carnahan in the first 2 movies (as she was recast in the 3rd movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), will return for a 4th instalment of The Mummy film series!

According to a report by Syfy, both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have reportedly signed on to star in the 4th The Mummy movie as of Tuesday (4 November).

What to expect

While Universal Pictures tried to reboot the movie franchise in 2017 with Tom Cruise, writer and director Stephen Sommers expressed his interest in 2023 in bringing The Mummy back to Egypt, if given the chance.

“To me, it has to be (in Egypt),”

“It doesn’t have to all be in Egypt. That’s why with the sequel, the beginning (of The Mummy 2017) starts off in Ancient Egypt, and then we go to London for the whole first act. And it’s very adventurous. (I thought) London at night, and all this stuff, could be very adventurous and fun, but we have to get back to Egypt. Like Tarzan movies, you want him to be in the jungle,” he said.

It is also important to note that another Mummy movie just finished filming in June of this year, by Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin, starring Midsommar’s Jack Reynor and Moon Knight’s May Calamawy, and is set to hit the silver screen in April 2026.
