Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny vie for Grammys

Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga are set to go head-to-head at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, with all three chasing their first win in the night's biggest prize, Album of the Year.

Lamar leads this year’s nominations with nine, while Gaga and Bad Bunny are both in contention across the top categories.

In the Album of the Year field, Bad Bunny is nominated for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, which would be the first Spanish-language winner in the category. Gaga is nominated for MAYHEM, while Lamar is up for GNX. Also in the running are Justin Bieber (SWAG), Sabrina Carpenter (Man’s Best Friend), Clipse (Let God Sort Em Out), Leon Thomas (MUTT) and Tyler, The Creator (CHROMAKOPIA).

This year’s Record of the Year contenders include Lamar’s luther (with SZA), Carpenter’s Manchild, Gaga’s Abracadabra and Bad Bunny’s DtMF. Doechii, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and ROSÉ with Bruno Mars are also nominated in the category.

There are Irish names among this year's nominees, mainly in the classical categories and in technical credits.

Irish composers Donnacha Dennehy and Emma O’Halloran are both nominated, with Dennehy’s Land of Winter shortlisted in Best Contemporary Classical Composition and Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, and O’Halloran’s Trade/Mary Motorhead nominated for Best Opera Recording.

The Best Opera Recording nomination for Trade/Mary Motorhead includes Irish National Opera collaborators in the credited line-up, including conductor Elaine Kelly and singers Naomi Louisa O’Connell, John Molloy and Oisín Ó Dálaigh. O’Connell is also nominated for her performance on Mary Kouyoumdjian’s Adoration, also in the Best Opera Recording category.

Mastering engineer Ruairí O'Flaherty, originally from Killarney and now based in Los Angeles, received four nominations, including for Album of the Year for Sabrina Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend and Kendrick Lamar’s GNX.

Comedian Trevor Noah returns as host. The main ceremony begins at 5pm PT (1am Monday in Ireland), with many awards presented earlier at the pre-telecast ceremony.
