Colin Farrell, Sharon Horgan, Ruth Negga get Emmy nods
· RTE.ieColin Farrell, Sharon Horgan and Ruth Negga have all been nominated for Emmy awards ahead of the ceremony that takes place in Los Angeles on 14 September.
Farrell was the first name revealed for the Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for his performances in The Penguin.
Horgan has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Bad Sisters.
She'll be up against the likes of Kathy Bates (Matlock), Britt Lower (Severance), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us) and Keri Russell (The Diplomat).
Negga has been nominated for her performances in Presumed Innocent in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie category.
Others nominated with Negga are Erin Doherty (Adolescene), Deirdre O'Connell (The Penguin), Chloë Sevigny (Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story), Jenny Slate (Dying For Sex) and Christine Tremarco (Adolescence).
Farrell has already won at the IFTAs, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, Critics Choice, and Satellite Awards for his work on The Penguin.
The Dublin actor faces formidable opposition in this nomination category as he's up against the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal and Stephen Graham.
Gyllenhaal was nominated for his part in Presumed Innocent, while Graham got his nod for Adolescence.
Also in the mix are Brian Tyree Henry (for Dope Thief) and Cooper Koch (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story).
Elsewhere, it was a good day for HBO Max with a record haul of 142 Emmy nominations, led by drama series The Penguin, The White Lotus, The Last of Us and the comedy Hacks.
That figure represents a new high for HBO and tops its previous best of 140 nominations in 2020.
The all-time Emmy record haul remains the 160 nominations Netflix received in 2020. This year, Netflix picked up 120.
Severance topped the poll in terms of individual show nominations. The Apple TV+ drama gathered a total of 27 Emmy Award nods.
It's followed closely by HBO's The Penguin, which picked up 24, and then another Apple TV+ show, new comedy The Studio, and Season three of HBO’s The White Lotus, both of which have 23 nominations.
Next up is HBO’s The Last of Us, which earned 16 for its second season. then Disney+’s Andor and HBO Max’s Hacks on 14 each, while Netflix’s Adolescence, Hulu’s The Bear and HBO Max’s The Pitt each received 13.
The 2025 Emmy nominations were announced by Brenda Song and Harvey Guillén, with the Emmy Awards ceremony taking place on 14 September at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
