EA’s Battlefield 6 Breaks Records With 7 Million Copies Sold Already
by Joe Gallop · channelnewsElectronic Arts’ (EA) latest shooter, Battlefield 6, has stormed to the biggest launch in the franchise’s history, selling over seven million copies in just three days.
The milestone puts the game on par with blockbuster releases from rival series Call of Duty.
Released on October 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, Battlefield 6 has also seen more than 172 million online matches played during its opening weekend and over 15 million hours of streaming watched.
The game marks a major comeback for the Battlefield series, which struggled with disappointing launches for Battlefield V (2018) and Battlefield 2042 (2021).
EA tasked Vince Zampella, co-creator of Call of Duty and head of Respawn Entertainment, with leading the project. Zampella’s team implemented “Battlefield Labs,” a player-feedback-driven beta process that clearly paid off.
“We never take moments like this for granted,” Zampella said. “We appreciate you joining us for Battlefield 6’s momentous launch. We have so much more to come in the weeks ahead.”
Franchise General Manager Byron Beede also thanked the global community, noting the game was “built with our fans” and calling the launch “just the beginning,” with Season 1 content scheduled for release on October 28. This update will include a new map, Blackwell Fields and a 4v4 mode.
The record-breaking launch comes just weeks after EA announced plans to go private in a US$55 billion (A$83 billion) deal led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.
It came after EA shed hundreds of staff, following similar moves across the industry.
Despite ongoing criticism from unionised staff over the Saudi takeover, EA now has a major public win to showcase.
