‘Eragon’ Disney+ Series Sets Todd Harthan, Todd Helbing as Co-Showrunners, Marc Webb Boards as Exec Producer

Variety has learned that Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing have joined the project as co-showrunners, with Harthan set as co-creator on the show alongside “Eragon” author Christopher Paolini. All three will serve as executive producers.
Marc Webb has also come aboard as an executive producer, as has Rachel Moore. As previously reported, Bert Salke will executive produce via Co-Lab 21. 20th Television is the studio, with 20th TV having optioned the entire “The Inheritance Cycle” book series. The show remains in development at Disney+. Harthan is currently under an overall deal at 20th TV.

Variety exclusively reported “Eragon” was in development at Disney+ back in 2022. The official logline for the show states, “When destiny selects an ordinary teenager to become the first Dragon Rider in over a hundred years, he must forge an unbreakable bond with his dragon, master ancient magic, and challenge the mad king who destroyed the Riders.”
Harthan is currently the showrunner on the hit ABC series “High Potential.” He previously created the Fox drama series “Rosewood” and has worked on other shows like “Psych,” “Crash,” “Dominion,” “The Resident,” and “The Company You Keep.”
Helbing was the co-creator on the popular CW series “Superman & Lois,” while he was also the showrunner on fellow CW Arrow-verse series “The Flash.” He is currently developing a “Mech Cadets” TV series at Disney+ with Brent Fletcher, while he has also worked on shows like “Black Sails,” “Spartacus,” and “Smallville.”
Webb is known for directing films like “(500) Days of Summer” as well as the blockbusters “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” His other credits include the feature “Gifted” starring Chris Evans and Jenny Slate and shows like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Limitless,” and “High Potential.”
Harthan is repped by UTA and Circle Management + Production. Helbing is repped by CAA and Gendler, Kelly, and Cunningham. Webb is repped by CAA and Lichter Grossman.
“Eragon” is the first of the four “Inheritance Cycle” books, followed by “Eldest,” “Brisingr,” and “Inheritance.” The books have collectively sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.”Eragon” was previously adapted into a film of the same name in 2006 with Ed Speleers as Eragon, Rachel Weisz as the voice of Saphira, Jeremy Irons as Brom, and John Malkovich as Galbatorix. The film was widely panned by critics upon its release and grossed approximately $250 million at the worldwide box office against a reported budget of $100 million. In 2021, fans of the books began using the hashtag #EragonRemake in an effort to get Disney to produce a series version given their disappointment with the film.
